A Spare Prosthesis: A Story About a Customer's Trust
A short, lighthearted story about a customer who trusted Lê Hoàn Prosthetics & Orthotics so completely that he had an entire spare prosthesis made, skipping the usual fitting checks and consultation.
One afternoon, the doorbell rang at Lê Hoàn Prosthetics & Orthotics. A tall, well-built young man stood at the door, smiling broadly, explaining he had come to get a below-knee prosthesis made. Asked whether he needed a consultation, he confidently declined — he had been wearing a prosthesis made by Mr. Hoàn for years, and this time he just wanted the cast taken and the leg made straight away, no consultation needed.
Five days later, he returned to collect his new prosthesis, cheerfully asking the staff to wrap it in a nice bag so he could take it straight away. When asked to walk a few laps first so the fit and cosmetic finish could be checked and adjusted, he walked only a few meters before confidently declaring it "fine," asking that it be finished right then because he had plans to meet friends.
More than an hour later, once the leg was finished and he was asked to test-walk it once more, he still refused, insisting he trusted Mr. Hoàn's craftsmanship completely. Only when asked why he was in such a hurry to get a new prosthesis when his current one was still working fine did he reveal the real reason: this new leg was a spare — in case something went wrong with his current prosthesis while he was working away from home, he would have a backup ready.
This small story left a lasting impression on the clinic staff — a customer so confident in the product and the craftsmanship behind it that he was happy to have an entire prosthesis made just "to keep in reserve."
